• Our Primary 5 Pupils Have Done The School Proud!
Five of our pupils, Lucas Tan Rui Yu (P5.5), Ng Ruo Yee (P5.5), Nurul Nafisah Bte Mohamed Ali (P5.5), Yan Pei Ling (P5.5) and Alyssa Loh Shi Wen (P5.6), represented Kheng Cheng for the first time in Wits & Words 2011, an inter-school debating competition, organised by the Gifted Education Branch, MOE, sometime in March and April this year. These pupils spent long hours doing research and practising for the debate.
Lucas Tan did the school proud when he emerged the Best Speaker in Round 2 in a gruelling match against our competing school. The team also won Round 3 where they proposed the motion ‘This House believes that community service should not be compulsory for pupils.’ Kudos too, to their four teachers, Mr Roman Anthony, Mr Melvin Chang, Miss Indra and Miss Grace Foong, for their hard work and dedication in guiding the team along in their preparations for their battle of words and wits!

Two primary 5 and primary 6 pupils from Kheng Cheng School participated in ‘Kem Obor’, a Malay writing cum photography competition organised by SPH on the 6th of June 2011. Our representatives, Wan Hasif (P6.5) and Hamzah (P6.4) did us proud by emerging 1st and 2nd respectively. Both winners received a Canon digital camera and a commemorative book from NParks.
|
 |
The other two primary 5 pupils, Nurul Nafisah(P5.5) and Dian Febriyanti (P5.3) were on 10th and 11th placing respectively. Each received a $20 book voucher.
The contest requires pupils to capture interesting photos of people or things at Toa Payoh Park and write a short caption about it. The winner of the first prize, Wan Hasif wrote about the determination of an elderly man who works as a cleaner at the park. The second prize winner penned a piece about a Malay man who used to torture dogs but now, takes care of them.
