Language Fiesta
To provide an immersive environment and authentic learning experiences, the Mother Tongue department organises various classroom activities and school-wide activities to ignite the joy of learning Mother Tongue Language (MTL). These activities not only expose them to the rich cultural heritage but also double as an excellent platform for them to listen, speak, read and write in their MTL.

Reading Programme
We strongly believe that reading allows for endless opportunities for students to learn and appreciate the language and its culture. In addition to newspaper and magazine subscription, we implemented structured reading programme to allow students to be given opportunities and resources to read. Some of our initiatives and resources include teacher-led reading lessons, classroom libraries and the Chinese Reading Programme at the library- a collaboration with our Parent Support Group (PSG).
Our Primary 1 to Primary 3 students will also take part in the MTL SOAR programme, which is designed to Spark interest, Open minds, Appreciate cultural heritage, and help them Rise as confident readers.
Cultural Performance Exposure
The Mother Tongue department also provide rich learning experiences through exposure to cultural performances. These experiences aim to spark curiosity and encourage students to embrace their MTL with enthusiasm and draw meaningful connections to their own culture.
Support Programmes
On top of adopting a modular approach in the Mother Tongue curriculum, the Mother Tongue department offers Mother Tongue Support Programme (MTSP) for P3-P4 students to learn their MTL at a comfortable pace. This allows students to build a stronger foundation as they progress towards upper primary.
Competitions
MTL transforms into the very tool for success when students participate in competitions. Through participation in a variety of Chinese, Malay and Tamil competitions, our students hone their skills as they pit against students from other schools, gaining exposure and a deeper appreciation of the value of MTL and our cultural identity.
Our students have done us proud in the National Chinese Challenge, participating in the final round for 2 consecutive years and clinching the 2nd place in 2026. We also won 1st place for the Pertandingan Pidato Budiman Bestari (inter-school Malay speech competition) in 2026.
